Using anti-malware software not only speeds up your computer, it also protects you and your computer from being compromised. Malware, or malicious code, is the root of the majority of slowness issues that we hear about. Browsing the Internet brings in computer nasties that need to be rooted out before your computer can fly.
Spyware and adware can literally bring your computer to a screeching halt. It not only reduces your computer to a crawl (if it works at all anymore), but it also can send personally identifiable data (a key ingredient of Identity Theft) from your computer to another network, which can then exploit a host of things (all bad).
It’s easy to set up a system that keeps these intrusions to a minimum. There are many programs on the market, many of which are free.
Here are some of the best.
Adaware
Spybot
Windows Defender
Webroot Spy Sweeper
Some other top spyware killers are:
- Spyware Doctor
- Bit Defender
- Spyware Nuker
- CA Anti-spyware
- AdAware
- NoAdware
- XoftSpySE
- AdwareAlert
- SpywareStop
- AntiSpyware BOT
- AntiSpyware
We suggest that you use more than one of these programs to eliminate spyware, adware, and malware. After all, there are so many insidious programs that one vendor or software solutions provider cannot be counted on to catch them all. So, use a combination of two.
Set one up to “auto-immunize” and schedule scans on a bi-weekly basis. Set the other up to scan on the off cycle (i.e., bi-weekly).
Remember, you cannot follow this methodology with Anti-virus software; if you do, they will give you lots of conflicts.
